1. The Big Idea

A charismatic leader or leaders propose a revolutionary approach that promises a cure for alienated and vulnerable people.

So here we are. Preparations are underway to confront the system in Australia. The gunships are circling. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. It’s the adrenaline of the leader in ultimate mode, a demeanor suggesting: pensive Nordic god, rugged appearance, hair woven from beaver hide, genuinely raw you half-expect to look down and see him playing in the field stripped to the waist holding a fish.

It’s the opener continuing to have permission speaking publicly, resembling a cheerful animal formally attired, uttering phrases such as we’re breaking down traditions. Indeed, the vibe, for a significant period, was only good energy.

3. Expansion Period

Growth phase. Cohesion maintained through repetition of key phrases. These beliefs can appear contradictory to prove commitment.

Is it just me? The backlash, the anger, the sense of betrayal following the initial loss feels overblown, overdone. England batted badly in Perth, as they often do in Australia. And now we have this the criticism, the frustration, the sense of English Test cricket as a kind of abomination. And this is the real point. All movements are similar. The approach was a phenomenon because cricket is a cult. Or rather, the team has long been exclusive, a circle, a private event, a closed world with centuries of tradition and mystery behind it. This has always been a place where power and access are hoarded. It’s the imperial sport of England, the pioneering brand. And surprisingly, the country is a phenomenon, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a monarchy still exists.

The team have been enclosed in this system since childhood. Seeking change, to foster positivity, they are simply replicating their upbringing, building another enclosure, a closed circle, however with a new team and a mentor who wants you to be yourself if you fit the mold.
