Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
